Ian PowriePhD CandidateBA (Econ) Hons (Sheffield University) Location: Room A210 Engineering Annex SupervisorsAssoc Prof Brian O'Neill Research TopicThe Implications for Company and Institutional Strategy of the Risks Associated with the Sustainable Development of the Wine Industry. Research AbstractThe Australian Wine Industry faces an increasingly competitive global industry. It has experienced a successful twenty year period of strategic developments. New issues have arisen, requiring a change of strategic paradigm to deal with them; increasing competition, a deteriorating environment and increased social concerns about the impact from drinking alcoholic beverages by a fringe element of the market. The research will address each of the environmental, social and economic (strategic) issues. The approach will be based on an Environmental Footprint analysis reinforced, on an exception basis, by other analytical methods such as Life Cycle Assessment. The research will include a review of existing practices, extended by interviews and case studies. This approach will seek to provide a scientific and objective analysis of new data and methods. The research will identify potential improvements both for the industry in relation to the issues identified and for the applied methodology of Industrial Ecology. Interests
